Living in the Last days – CHILDLIKE FAITH
The Just Shall Live by Faith Habakkuk 2:4
Upon occasions, Jesus turned to the simple faith of little children to make a statement. A little child trusts and believes unreservedly and unconditionally. It is this quality found in small children that I believe Jesus is looking for in each one of us that profess to believe in Him - to have a trusting childlike faith!
“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of Heaven." Matthew 18:3
CONCERNING THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
The first coming of Christ into this world has changed everything. All events in this life are now pointing towards that Day when Christ shall come again at His Second Coming but this time in power and great glory bringing with Him reward and judgement.
Jesus Christ has been chosen by God to deliver both life and judgement to mankind because He is the Son of Man.
“…For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honour the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who sent Him. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
John 6: 22-24
“Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.”
John 6: 25-29
We are, therefore, to live a Godly life in this world if we are to victoriously overcome what lies ahead for indeed it will be a life of spiritual warfare and battling through the last days as a soldier of Christ living in His blood bought victory. This is an essential part of our calling.
A SERVANT of GOD
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Matthew 20:25-27
KEY POINTS THAT QUALIFY A SERVANT OF GOD
• Servants of God cannot live to themselves - otherwise they are not servants.
…none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.
Romans 14: 7
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
1 Corinthians 6: 18-20
Contrary to popular opinion in the world and very often within the “church”, the Bible here declares that we are not our own! We were bought with a price – the Blood of Jesus – and both our body and our spirit are God’s! We have
been brought back to God as His own purchased possession!
One must ask themselves – just how far have we departed from God and His unchangeable Word? How far have we compromised to accommodate views
and behaviour in the world by diluting the Word of God to make it more appeasing to sinful man?
• A SERVANT IS ALWAYS READY AND WAITING
Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, Psalm 123:2
Here I see a picture of a waiter or waitress in a restaurant serving the needs of their customers. They are ready, waiting, looking, observing to make themselves available to serve! This is a good parallel to serving God for in doing so are we not serving the needs of others?
• A TRUE AND FAITHFUL SERVANT LOVES THEIR MASTER AND THEIR
SERVICE REFLECTS THIS
The Old Testament law governing servants is a wonderful example of a servant who loves their master and desires to serve him forever and not go out free!
If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years; and in the seventh he shall go out free and pay nothing… But if the servant plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’ then his master shall bring him to the judges. He shall also bring him to the door, or to the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him forever. Exodus 21:2, 5-6
The very fact that the law made provision for this is interesting! Clearly this passage points to the LOVE between the servant of God and their Lord.
“If you love me,” said Jesus, “keep my commandments.”
God is only interested in a bond of love with His people.
Oh! That we might recognize this, turn from our own way and surrender our all to Him!
